ICYS 2018 Bronze medal for Anatolia student

Congratulations to the Greek Students for presenting their research work at the 25th International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS 2018) in Serbia.

Twelve students from across Greece, two of which were Anatolia students, took part in the 25th International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS 2018), which was held in Belgrade, Serbia, April 19-24, where they presented their unique and high-standard scientific research papers. The twelve students were accompanied by the Greek Country Representative for ICYS, Dr. Haido Samaras, and team leaders Dr. Dimitrios Sotiropoulos and Ms. Despina Avramidou. Evangelos Axarloglou (A’ lykeion), mentored by Ms. Despina Avramidou, presented a paper in the field of Life Sciences titled “Do the Mighty Always Survive?” Maria Charisi (B’ lykeion), mentored by Mr. Christos Atlasis and Ms. Maria Spyropoulou, presented a paper titled “Biodegradable Plastics.”

Students who participate in the ICYS conference present their research to esteemed members of their academic fields and, thus, become country ambassadors of student scientific science innovation. They are judged by a jury of five international judges and educators and they need to be well prepared in the topic that they have chosen to present. Among 195 students and 28 countries from across the world and a rigorous selection process, this year’s Greek delegation received the following awards:

-Silver award in Engineering to the In.EX.Team, i.e. to Panos Tsimpos, Maximos-Agis Bolotas, Christina Theochari, Athens College (Hellenic American Educational Foundation)
-Bronze award in Environmental Sciences to Maria Charisi, Anatolia College
-Bronze award in Engineering to Paraskevi Kandreli, Zosimaias General Lyceum of Ioannina
-Bronze award in Engineering to Savvina Pournara, 26th General Lyceum of Athens (Marasleios)
-Special award in Physics to Ioannis Dimotsis, American Farm School
