Virtual Seminar/Workshop on Social-Emotional Learning for Secondary and Tertiary Education teachers and professors.
The key to an optimal school experience lies in a school community that goes beyond academics and into the realm of social and emotional learning. Today’s students are facing unprecedented challenges resulting from the pandemic health crisis, as they try to recuperate skills in self- and time-management, social situations, responsible decision making and resilience. Young people need support in identifying and managing their emotions with Emotional Intelligence. This type of intelligence, as described by Daniel Goleman, can be incorporated into our teaching practices through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) methods and strategies. In this online workshop, participants learned how to stimulate self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and effective communication skills, in direct and indirect actions and attitudes, which can be embedded into the curriculum. Concrete tools and strategies for conflict management, stress reduction, and resilience aim to empower educators not to simply do SEL-based activities, but to foster a SEL-informed school environment.
