"Now More Than Ever: Post-crisis civil societies in action" : Third Annual Thessaloniki Think Tanks and Civil Society Forum
On Monday, February 8, from 7-8:30, the Dukakis Center and Transparency International Greece will co-host the Third Annual Thessaloniki Think Tanks and Civil Society Forum. The theme of this year’s forum is "Now More Than Ever: Post-crisis civil societies in action."
The event, which will feature representatives of local, national, and international civil society organizations, will take place in the context of the annual series of “Why Think Tanks Matter” forums globally, in collaboration with the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program, University of Pennsylvania.
The discussion will focus on the crucial role of civil society at the current moment when a vaccine is circulating but the global economy is still teetering; when the international order is tentatively returning to "normal" but when China is fast overtaking Europe and the United States; when populists like Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro are being repudiated but illiberalism and authoritarianism still loom as threats; when local problems fester and local populations yearn for some semblance of “normalcy.”
What are the values needed for civil society to play a leading role toward a healthier society and a more resilient, more representative democratic system? What can and should civil society strive to contribute? How can civil society organizations impact the work of public authorities in these and other key areas? What are local remedies to these global problems?
Also on the program will be the premiere of a short Dukakis Center documentary, “Now More Than Ever,” co-produced by AddArt and the Dukakis Center.
