The Anatolia College Christmas Bazaar Comes Back to Our Hearts
One of the most vibrant and joyful bazaars of recent years took place on Sunday, December 4, 2022. Three years after the pandemic outbreak, the Anatolia College Christmas Bazaar made an impressive comeback in the school agenda and the program of festive events in Thessaloniki.
The weather favored plans to hold the event outdoors on the Lyceum (formerly Boys') side. The students' energy and the people's joy flooded the campus, which turned into a beautiful and harmonious celebration scene with dozens of white tents spreading between the trees and in front of Macedonia and Kyrides Hall.
Students from all sections of the Middle School, High School, and IB Diploma Programme designed and prepared products – such as paraffin candles, liqueurs, wall calendars, paintings, and Christmas decorations – and presented activities, many of which were prepared during the school clubs with the help of the teachers: objects made in 3D Printers, the best-selling perfumes and natural cosmetics of the Aroma Club, handmade toiletries and soaps of the Cosmetics Club, jewelry of the Jewelry Club, wire trees from the Wire Sculpting Club, sweets and treats as part of the Home Economics lesson and the Cooking Club, alcohol- free Glühwein and German delicacies from the German Club, face painting, games, and activities. In addition, the IB2 students set up a Kids Corner, a North Pole attraction for young visitors who wanted to take photos with Santa Claus and write letters with Christmas wishes.
The live music did not stop for a minute once the doors of the Bazaar opened, which had free entry for the public this year. Thirteen student musical bands, the Orchestra, and Greek Dance Clubs impressed and excited the audience with their fantastic performances.
One of the day's highlights was the presence of the "Aeolos" team, which will represent Greece in the next F1 in Schools World Finals. The collaboration team consists of Anatolia College and the 2nd GEL Xanthi students. The team presented F1 cars designed and built on a 3D Printer, which enthralled the visitors.
Parents Associations and the Anatolia College Alumni Association / SAAK Anatolia had a very active presence supporting the Bazaar's purposes. Furthermore, as in previous years, 15 foundations and non-governmental organizations had the opportunity to sell products to support their causes while raising public awareness.
Mayor of Pylaia-Hortiatis, Mr. Ignatios Kaitezidis, and Anatolia College President, Dr. Panos Vlachos, performed the Christmas tree lighting in a joyful atmosphere, followed by a lottery that offered more than 230 gifts.
The event was made possible thanks to the voluntary participation of Anatolia High School students, ACT students, faculty, staff, and the Parents and Alumni Associations. Every year, the proceeds of the Christmas Bazaar are allocated to charitable foundations and public benefit organizations, honoring the prehistory of the Bazaar, which started in Thessaloniki in the 1930s to support the refugee populations after the Asia Minor Disaster.
