American Actor Joe White in Week-long Residence at Anatolia
He is not a household name, but if you watch “Law and Order”, you have seen him, as he has appeared numerous times on the series. He is also a movie actor, a theater director, and a teacher who has worked extensively in the New York City public schools and with the prestigious Manhattan Theatre Club as a teaching artist in MTC’s TheatreLink Program. Anatolia has been a participant in the TheatreLink Program, which links schools in a playwriting and performance exchange, for the past three years, but until the week of November 24, Anatolians has only known Joe White through email contact and videoconferencing. Now they know him personally.
He not only worked with students in this year’s 5th-form TheatreLink class but offered a series of workshops to faculty at the high school and Anatolia Elementary in using drama to teach English. He also worked with students in Anatolia’s IB program, where theater is offered as an elective course. His acting workshop for Anatolia drama students was attended by 40 student actors, whom he led in drama games and improvisations. And he led a directing workshop for “duet acting” coaches in Anatolia’s Forensics program. Just before leaving, he addressed the students of the 1st Lykeion on Thanksgiving morning, reminding them to be thankful for the exceptional school they have and advising them not just to sit back and be thankful but to become socially involved in creating a better world. As he left to catch a cab to the airport, students applauded warmly. Stay tuned.
