SEGA: An Innovative Educational Program for STEM in Early Childhood Education

SEGA - Shaping STEAM Education for Young Children through Gaming is a European educational program designed to enhance STEM teaching in early childhood education through playful activities and experiential learning. The program was developed in collaboration with universities and educators from Greece, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Poland, and includes:

  • Interactive educational material that helps children explore STEM concepts through play.
  • A digital storybook featuring characters and narratives that introduce young learners to the world of science and technology in a creative and engaging way.
  • A comprehensive educational package that supports preschool teachers in teaching STEM through storytelling, experiments, and hands-on activities.

As one of the program’s key partners, the Anna Papageorgiou STEM Center at Anatolia College contributed to the co-creation of the material, helping to develop activities that make STEM education accessible and exciting for young children.

SEGA at the Anatolia College Kindergarten

Students at the Kindergarten of Anatolia Elementary School are already using SEGA’s educational material, incorporating its activities into their daily learning. Through the stories of SEGA’s characters and the suggested STEM activities, they:

  • Experiment with natural phenomena and basic scientific concepts.
  • Explore how technologies work through interactive games.
  • Develop problem-solving, collaboration, and creative thinking skills.

Kindergarten STEM Family Day – An Afternoon Full of Science and Play

This year’s Kindergarten STEM Family Day was inspired by SEGA. Students and their parents had the opportunity to experiment and explore activities alongside SEGA’s heroes.

Parents and children worked together in interactive workshops, learning through play, while SEGA’s stories came to life, helping young learners connect storytelling with science. At the same time, STEM experiments and activities allowed students to become little scientists for the day.

This event showcased how SEGA can bridge learning between school and home, giving children opportunities to explore the world of STEM in a fun and participatory way.
