Donuts with Grownups: A Sweet Meeting of Generations
Just before the 6th-grade students say goodbye to Anatolia Elementary School and take their next big step, their classrooms were filled with loved ones, stories, memories, and deep emotion.
As part of the “Donuts with Grownups” initiative, the children invited grandparents, uncles, aunts, or other loved ones to school to share a special moment in their daily classroom routine. This activity, which in schools abroad is often associated with a morning breakfast, took on a more personal and tender form at our school: the elders brought treats, the children offered them donuts, and many of them prepared cards to thank them in their own unique way.

The most beautiful part of the gathering was the stories. The children's “grownups” shared memories from their own school days, opened small windows into other eras, and helped the children see school through a different lens: not only as the place where we learn today, but also as a place that carries experiences, friendships, and moments that stay with us for years.
Two different generations came together in the same classroom. This time, not for a lesson, but for conversation, singing, and smiles. For the 6th-grade students, who are just about to complete their journey through Elementary school, this activity became a sweet reminder of the bonds that support them as they move forward.

“Donuts with Grownups” highlighted in a simple and human way that school is more than just classrooms and lessons. It is a space for relationships, where families, memories, and love meet the daily lives of children and become a part of their own school story.
