Faculty Address American Studies Conference Three Anatolia faculty members – one each from ACT, the IB, and the high school – were among nine presenters at the November 25 conference “Trends and Perspectives in American Studies in Greece” organized by HELAAS (the Hellenic Association for American Studies) and the English Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Dr. Eleftheria Arapoglou of Anatolia’s IB program, the organizer of the event, spoke on “The American literary presence in Greece: the examples of Mark Twain and Henry James.” Dr. Joseph Gratale of ACT’s Division of Humanities and Social Sciences spoke on “American culture and world culture: beyond the rule of empire.” Lastly, Dr. Phil Holland, Chairman of the Anatolia English Department, spoke on “Presenting American literature and culture to Greek secondary school students.” The conference, held in the Megaro Billi at the Thessaloniki History Center, was addressed by US Consul General Hoyt Brian Yee and other dignitaries and attended by a full house of 150 university students, scholars, and members of the general public. |
