Meet National Debate Development Team
This year, the Panhellenic Forensics Association invited two Anatolia students to the National Debate Team tryouts, held in Athens on Sunday, October 14th. Anat Karapanagiotidou and Maria-Markella Xanthopoulou competed against top debaters in Greece, contending with students from HAEF, Moraitis, St. Catherine’s, St. Lawrence, Ekpaideftiki Anagennisi, and Pierce College to prove their debating skills, knowledge of current events, and their ability to work cooperatively and respond to constructive feedback.
Out of the 23 debaters who competed, 13 were chosen to train with the national debate development team, which practices rigorously until December under the guidance of Ms. Kallina Basli, Head Coach of Team Greece. Among those chosen was our own Anat Karapanagiotidou! She will join the development team until December, when five students from the team will be selected to represent Greece in the World Schools Debating Championship, which will be held in Sri Lanka in July 2019. Congratulations to both Maria-Markella and Anat and their coaches, Leda Antoniou and Andrew Harrison, for this great honor, and GOOD LUCK to Anat as she trains for the next stage in the selection process!
