Double Success of the Anatolia Debate Team This Year!
The Anatolia English Debate club is having a record-setting year. Earlier this month, Dimitra Ouzouni, Markella Xanthopoulou, Faidon Kampouropoulos, Dimitra Prekka, and Antony Zafirakis all traveled to Athens to try out for the World Schools Debate development team. Anatolia head coach, Andrew Harrison, and the rest of the Anatolia family are proud to announce that Markella Xanthopoulou and Antony Zafirakis were selected among 37 top debaters from Greece to be part of the 2019 Development Team. They will train in Athens with the other eight qualifiers until the final cut is made for the five-person national team, which will represent Greece in the 2020 WSDC in Mexico. Anatolia has never sent so many students to the invitation-only tryouts; it is also the first time in 10 years that Anatolia has had two students make the development team in a single season, and that an Anatolia junior has been selected for the development team. We congratulate all five debaters and wish the best of luck to Markella and Antony in the months to come.
The World Schools Debate Championship is an annual tournament where countries from around the world send a single team of five debaters to the global competition, which takes place in a different location each year. Anatolia has had two recent members of the team: Magda Petmeza (2018, Zagreb Croatia) and Anat Karapanagiotidou (2019, Bangkok Thailand).
